MISS J

FOUNDER

Founded in 2010 by Jessica Lyn - professionally known as “Miss J” - AVA (Aerial Vertical Arts) was built from over two decades of industry experience, performance artistry, and elite-level coaching within the world of pole dance and movement.

Miss J began her career in 2001 as a professional exotic dancer in Toronto before moving internationally to Paris, France, and later London, England, where she spent seven years performing throughout the UK as a featured entertainer and pole artist. Immersed in both the underground and emerging competitive pole industry, she developed a deep understanding of movement, stage performance, sensual artistry, athletic training, and audience connection long before pole entered the mainstream fitness world.

After becoming a certified Pole Instructor in 2009, she returned to Canada and founded AVA Fitness Movement Studios in 2010 with a clear vision: to create a premium training space where artistry, athleticism, empowerment, and authentic self-expression could coexist.

Over the last 15+ years, Miss J has established herself as one of Canada’s most respected and experienced pole educators, coaching more than 10,000 students worldwide and mentoring hundreds of competitors, performers, and instructors. Her athletes have consistently placed at top levels in pole competitions, while her teaching style has become known for blending technical excellence, creativity, musicality, performance quality, and emotional connection.

Beyond coaching, Miss J has judged and hosted numerous pole competitions, produced over 50 showcases and performance events, and played an active role in shaping and elevating the pole community in Western Canada. Her expertise spans pole sport, exotic flow, choreography, stage performance, aerial arts, instructor development, and movement-based confidence training.

In 2022, she was selected as the lead dance choreographer for the movie “Let's Get Physical” starring Jenna Dewan and Jennifer Irwin. She also served as Jennifer Irwin’s dance double for the film - further solidifying her reputation as a trusted industry professional capable of bridging commercial entertainment, performance art, and technical movement coaching.

As a longtime advocate for sex workers and the origins of pole dance culture, Miss J remains deeply committed to honoring the roots of the industry while helping redefine public perception of pole as both a legitimate art form and high-level athletic discipline. Through her leadership, mentorship, and uncompromising dedication to excellence, she continues to inspire a new generation of performers, athletes, and movement artists.
